Hello. My name is Hugh. I'm an amateur photographer from Dundee in Scotland.

Thank you for taking time to visit my page.  On this site, you'll find photographs of memories and experiences captured over the years of this adventure called “life”.  Some are old, some are new but they will always be mine. A very good friend suggested I use this section in a Q & A style so here goes...

How long have you been interested in photography?
I've been interested in photography for a number of years now, a passion which started off back in the day when it was predominantly black and white photography. I first developed and printed my own photographs in the kitchen of my family home. Much to the disdain of my mother, I would take over the kitchen, put up blackout boards and ban everyone from coming in during the often-long hours I experimented with different photographic techniques. I think this is where I “developed” my preference for Black & White photography over Colour. To this day, I still have the equipment in the attic of my parents’ home.

Although family, work and life in general have intervened somewhat over the years, my passion never went away. I am very much an amateur photographer and don’t pretend to be a professional by any means. However, taking full advantage of the advancements in technology, I have found a new way to approach photography and it has very much re-ignited my passion.

What are you trying to capture?
I do not particularly like taking photographs that look “staged” or “contrived “- I take a photograph because I like what I see in front of me, and I try as much as I can to convey what I see with my camera or phone

What is it about the "space" of photography you enjoy?
If you put that question into one of the AI apps, you get a whole spiel of what it could mean. For me, I love big skies and wide-open spaces. In a lot of my landscape pictures, I try to incorporate a bit more sky than would normally be included. This is especially true when I am photographing scenes with water as I love the way that clouds are reflected over the surface and how they change the water.

What do you hope your photography will give a viewer?
I don't really know to be honest. The pictures I have taken and that have been seen by others have always been well received. If the pictures I take stir memories or experiences (good ones anyway) for others, then I am more than happy. And, if it gives them the drive or inspiration to visit that place, then even better (however, the same weather conditions at the time of the picture are out with my control).

If you want to know anything else, feel free to get in touch via the contact form on the home page.
